Twiddling my thumbs

The off-season is boring.  I don’t know what to do with myself when I’m not working towards a goal race.  Sitting on the couch does nothing to enhance my life, and I’m simply not motivated to fill my life with mundane tasks like cleaning my car.

I’ve started structured training again, my first speed session was two weeks ago.  That speed session felt surprisingly good, I’m feeling pretty fit.  Maybe it’s all the weight lifting I’ve been doing.

There’s a part of me that wants to start run training like a maniac but I know that’s a bad idea.  If there’s one thing that injures/exhausts me it’s speedwork.  As I add it back into my training regimen I need to be cautious.

Right now I’m limiting myself to 80-90km/wk and one quality session every 4 days.  I’ll stay at that volume for the next 3 weeks before bumping it up to 90-100km/wk.  I’m usually quite happy with 100km weeks, so hopefully that will satisfy the itch.  That being said, I’m not very good at sticking to my own training plans.  I’m definitely someone who does better with a coach.  It’s too bad we’re broke right now.

The Hardrock lottery opens up next week.   This will be my third time throwing my name in the hat.  I think I read it takes most people 7 years …

Anyway, I haven’t been completely sedentary during this off-season.  In fact, I’ve been having lots of fun adventures!
